What's it all about?
MODULE 1
What is the Science of Reading?
This module provides a comprehensive overview of the historical evolution of reading instruction, from traditional methods to evidence-based practices. Participants will explore the significance of research in shaping teaching methodologies and gain insights into the key approaches in the teaching of reading.


MODULE 2
Components of Reading
In this module, participants delve into the science behind reading models, including Scarborough's Reading Rope and the Active View of Reading. Participants will analyse the components of these models and their implications for effective reading instruction.
MODULE 3
Word Recognition
This module focuses on essential word recognition strategies crucial for early reading development. Participants will explore phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, decoding, sight word recognition, and fluency .


MODULE 4
Language Comprehension
In this module we will explore the elements of language comprehension (background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning and literacy knowledge) and how they contribute to overall reading comprehension.
MODULE 5
Putting the Science of Reading into Practice
The final module focuses on applying evidence-based practices in reading instruction. Participants will reflect on personal teaching practices, explore how to apply evidence-based approaches in their own classroom, differentiate instruction and develop supports aligned with the Science of Reading.
