MODULE 1

What is the Science of Reading?

This module provides a comprehensive overview of the historical evolution of reading instruction, from traditional methods to evidence-based practices. Participants will explore the significance of research in shaping teaching methodologies and gain insights into the key approaches in the teaching of reading.

MODULE 2

Components of Reading

In this module, participants delve into the science behind reading models, focusing on Scarborough's Reading Rope and the Active View of Reading. Through interactive activities and discussions, participants analyze the components of these models and their implications for effective reading instruction.

MODULE 3

Word Recognition

This module focuses on essential word recognition strategies crucial for early reading development. Participants will engage in hands-on activities to explore phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, decoding, and sight word recognition techniques.

MODULE 4

Language Comprehension

Participants in this module will explore strategies to enhance language comprehension, vocabulary development, semantic comprehension, comprehension monitoring, and understanding text structures to improve overall reading comprehension skills.

MODULE 5

Putting the Science of Reading into Practice

The final module focuses on applying evidence-based practices in reading instruction. Participants will learn how to differentiate instruction based on students' reading profiles, reflect on personal teaching practices, and develop reading intervention plans aligned with the Science of Reading principles.
